Designing for you

Rhian’s creative process begins with a moment of inspiration—a conversation, a walk, or a cherished memory—carefully recorded in her journal. From there, her ideas take shape through her second love, painting where colors and forms come to life. Each design then evolves into a carefully planned, handcrafted glass creation.

Every Splashback starts with a Vision

Each fused glass splashback by Rhian starts with a concept, whether fully formed or waiting to be discovered. Some customers arrive with a clear vision, while others only know they want something special but aren't sure what. That’s where Rhian’s expertise comes in.

Through friendly conversations and creative exploration, she helps uncover preferences, inspirations, and styles—understanding what customers love (and what they don’t!). Designs evolve through a collaborative process, with ideas passing back and forth until the perfect concept is found. With a personal touch and artistic flair, Rhian transforms these ideas into stunning, one-of-a-kind glass splashbacks.

From Vision to Design

Once the vision is clear, the journey to design begins. Rhian’s second passion—painting—takes center stage, allowing her creativity to flow as she brings the concept to life on canvas. This is where colors, textures, and details start to take shape, with every brushstroke carefully considered to translate into glass.

As she paints, she visualizes how the vibrant hues and intricate details will transform into fused glass, thinking through techniques to achieve depth, movement, and light. With each layer, the plan begins to form, bridging the gap between inspiration and the final handcrafted splashback.

From Design to Plan

When creating a fused glass splashback, Rhian works with two sheets of glass, carefully designing across three or four surfaces to build depth and intricate details. Every layer contributes to the final effect, bringing her designs to life with texture, shading, and movement.

Her plan acts as a crucial guide, mapping out what needs to go on each side of the glass. The biggest challenge? Before firing, powdered glass is opaque, making it impossible to see the final result. It’s a process of precision, skill, and above all—trusting the plan to reveal the magic in the kiln!
