In 2009, Rhian Goodhand stepped into the Glass Department at Swansea University, seeking nothing more than a night class—she walked out knowing she had found her calling. After 25 years as an IT manager, that moment of serendipity sparked a transformation. For the first time in 43 years, she felt it—this was what she had been searching for, without ever knowing it. Glass.
Within two weeks, Rhian rewrote her future, enrolling in a BA in Architectural Glass.
"Sometimes in life, you just know where you're going."
Upon graduating, she invested fully in her passion, opening The Goodhand Glass Studio in 2013. In those first years, she honed her craft, developing warm glass techniques that not only produced unique and affordable pieces but also honored sustainability—keeping the studio’s carbon footprint as light as a mark in the sand.
Then, in 2022, life presented another challenge—Rhian was diagnosed with bowel cancer. But just as she had reshaped her path before, she faced this battle with strength and creativity. Throughout her recovery, she never stopped making art. With an easel beside her bed, she turned to painting as a form of therapy, a testament to her resilience and love for creation. And she won.
Beyond glass, Rhian’s soul is drawn to the sea. She loves sailing, the rhythm of the waves, and the adventure of exploring new countries—whether with old friends or making new ones along the way. At the top of her bucket list? Sailing across the Atlantic. The call of the ocean, much like glass, is unpredictable, full of movement, and endlessly inspiring.
Rhian's love for life, colour, and the endless possibilities of glass shines through in every piece she creates. Her work is more than art; it’s a reflection of her journey, her strength, and the beauty of transformation. ?✨
